Thinking out loud

I have some more “notes” on Outlook 2003, but before I post them I’m considering the possibility of giving those Office Beta Notes a blog of their own. What, another blog? Isn’t 2 enough? Well yes, but this one would only be temporary, until Nov. 30 when the beta period ends, and it would then be a complete list of all my notes in one place. That’s not a bad idea, I just need to decide if I want to throw up a simple Blogger blog, or possibly use something completely new and different? Of course my hosts insistence on not providing MySQL support limits me greatly on that front, but I’ve heard some things about some ASP blog tools that might be worth checking out. Anyone know of any ASP tools that also kick out a RSS feed?

  • Little Projects

I’ve been keeping busy with some little projects, things like adding the Friends in Tech logo to the top of the page, to officially “flag” myself as a member of that group as well as thinking about ways to leverage the group resources there to benefit the readers here and visa versa, or adding Google…

If it’s public data – someone is using it to train an LLM

Bluesky is developing an open protocol, and Mastodon uses an open protocol (ActivityPub). The idea seems to be that we can create a social media platform without a walled garden where users don’t own the data, which is also completely protected from someone grabbing that public data to build an AI model.

That’s not going to happen. We are all going to have to make a choice.

Once again, I’m left with this question: Why are so many Bluesky users pro-AI yet so opposed to using their public posts to train it? Where do they think the data has been coming from?

  • Amen!

I was reading an interesting article from InfoWorld this afternoon about the coming Office 12 version. I’m going to remain uneasy about backwards compatibility until I have the chance to see Office 12 in action, despite what others might say about it, but just seeing that other people are aware that most end users don’t…

  • Bored meetings

Next week we’re having a Board meeting. Normally, we have our Board meetings onsite, which I hate. I always end up having to help one Board member or other check their email using their laptop, and our network, and then making sure I reset all their network settings before they leave and can never get…

  • You gotta love it..

Someone, who shall remain nameless but who is related to me, (although not in my immediate family) forwarded me one of those chain letter email thingies. Not a big deal, she’s been known to do this from time to time, but in this case, she didn’t take out any of the previous forwarding information. This…
