Catching up on some news

Taking a few minutes this morning to play catch up with the news of the blogosphere:

Steven: Find the apps that you and your tasks need, then select the platform that makes the most sense based on that finding -Wow, a calm, rational, objective statement about choosing an Operating System. Will wonders never cease? *L* Seriously though, it’s an excellent point! When people ask me for advice or recommendations on what computer they should buy, the first thing out of my mouth is “What are you going to use it for?”. The person using it to surf the web and email long lost relatives is going to want a different computer than the person editing his digital movies, wouldn’t you think?

Spotted the open letter to John Ashcroft the other day as well. All I’ve got to say to that is it must have been a hell of a job that the Justice Department has done in fighting domestic terrorism, illegal drugs, corporate fraud, etc.. Afterall if they now have the time and resources to make arresting people who use P2P networks to copy music a top priority, those other things must be completely finished, eh? Take a good hard look at the Senators and Representatives who signed that letter and understand exactly who they have sold out to.

Hmm seems as though I had fewer minutes than I thought, and well, nothing else really got my writing mojo going this morning anyway. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to write an email explaining how to change your printer defaults, because no matter how many times I say it, some people still don’t get it.

There seems to be a pretty serious security flaw in Greasemonkey, I’d highly recommend disabling it, getting the update and then waiting for the various scripts that will undoubtedly no longer work, to be updated themselves. Tags: Greasemonkey Follow these topics: Uncategorized

  • Jumping on the bandwagon

I wasn’t all that interested in Google’s new Desktop Search, but when even my wife’s grandmother starts asking about it, well what kind of a techie would I be if I couldn’t say whether it worked or not. So I installed it at work. It indexed my files in about 10 minutes, which is pretty…

  • Novel idea

Here’s a novel idea for your non-technical friends, and one I just came up with while having a discussion with a coworker: So you have a friend who has an old PC and wants rid of it. They don’t want to toss it in the trash, obviously, they want to drop it at a recycling…

I was just over reading Mike Sanders’ blog, and the comments therein when I realized that both of the commenters, when I hovered over their names, instead of being the URL for their site, it was a link to their Blogger profile. Then, when I clicked the “leave a comment” link the page that was…

  • Friday’s thoughts

Yeah it’s Friday, and based on the amount of traffic downtown this morning, I’m guessing we’re one of the few places actually working today. Sigh.
