Another Campaign

Yesterday, both Chuck Tomasi and Kreg Steppe, of the Technorama Podcast, and fellow Friends in Tech members, announced that they are running against one another for the office of PodPresident.

If you know these guys from their podcast, then you know that this election will be way more interesting, and entertaining, than that “other one”.

  • Work Can Be Many Things But It Is Also Transactional

When I hear people talking about how much more effective employees are when they make friends at work, it makes my hair stand on end a bit. Because the benefits of having good friendships don’t exist solely to make us better workers. We’re more than our work. Our work is a transaction that we take part in every day. We do work, our employer pays us. We shouldn’t let any kind of friendship or supposed loyalty blind us to that fact either. When our employers don’t consider the money they pay to be worth the work that we are doing, for whatever reason they have to think that, they have shown an uncanny willingness to let us go. There is no loyalty from that end of things and so no loyalty is deserved from the other end of the transaction either.

Culture is Defined by the Worst Behavior Tolerated

I wish I could take credit for the line in the title. But, I can’t. It has, however, been rumbling around in my brain for the past couple of days since I heard John Amaechi say it on a recent episode of Adam Grant’s podcast “Worklife” (Go listen to the whole episode, it’s very thought-provoking)

The show will be missed, but as I mentioned in the audio I gave them to use, it’ll be very interesting to see what sorts of things Kevin and George will be getting into now! New system Notes

Just a few things that have struck me about my new Vista machine: OK, so Dell announced on June 18 that they were going to allow customers the option to not have some pre-installed software. I ordered my system the week before that and saw that option, how new is it really? This system came…
