Live, partially

I just went public with part of the intranet site. I pointed people to the webcalendar subdirectory and gave an explanation of the conference room calendar and how to use it to book a conference room. We’ll see what sort of feedback I get. (I’ll be keeping an eye on access.log to see who actually goes and looks at it too!)

I’ve had two other people take a look at the Xoops install and the modules I’ve built into that. They had a few small suggestions but overall were quite impressed with it. I’m planning on going public with that next week. Writing up the intro and some basic instructions is going to take a little longer. I’m most interested in seeing who “gets” the concept and finds interesting ways to use the site.

    Oh someone gets it!

Dave pointed to something written by Joshua Allen today that talks about the software industry and where their focus should be. I have to admit, it’s a good piece. This line really summarizes my feelings on the whole matter: “And the guy paying for it doesn’t care what language, OS, or database you use as…

  • ActiveWords and what I’d really like

So I’ve been using ActiveWords for a few weeks now, and I’m liking the ability to add some shortcuts, and the auto correction of misspellings no matter what application I’m typing in, but it’s missing something. What I’d really like is something that will actually record keystroke or mouse clicks and let you automate certain…

  • Cool

Thanks to Cam World for pointing out this $399 computer from Walmart. When did Wally’s World start selling PC’s with no OS? That’s not a bad deal at all, seems like a pretty powerful machine, but no network card sort of sucks. That can be dealt with. I’ve never used a Microtel machine, anyone have…

  • How does that work?

How can the same person in the office leave his PC logged on and Outlook open while he’s not even in the office, and then two days later sit in his office all day long without even opening Outlook? What is the thinking process, is there a thinking process? I don’t understand.. Of course, I’ll…

  • Switch to RSS?

Had to do some meetings this morning and deal with some issues so I’ve been busy. A recurring theme seems to be problems with email delivery. For example, one of our users sent an email to about 100 people late yesterday, with a 25 page .pdf attached. All of these people are on one of…

  • Unpleasantness

It’s one of the areas of working in IT, specifically on the helpdesk, that no one ever prepares you for. They don’t cover it in the tech magazines, they don’t talk about it on tech podcasts, and you don’t hear much about it when you’re training for your career, but at some point, you will…
