Gmail

Rick Klau has some interesting comments about Gmail. I do think this is just the beginning for where Google is headed with this. I envision big things. I didn’t sign up for an account for a long time, even though as a Blogger user I was eligible, because personally I still like living in Outlook (and OneNote as I talked about below). Having email, calendar items, contacts and RSS feeds on my laptop all feed into Outlook makes it available to me even when I do not have an internet connection. That’s a big deal to me.

That being said, when I realized that some people were being given the chance to invite others, I signed up. Unfortunately I was not, at that time, given the opportunity to invite anyone so I sort of ignored the whole process until this week, when I realized they were giving new chances to invite folks and then I discovered that I do have 3 invites! I also saw this post over at Wil Wheaton’s and my immediate reaction was, “I’m in!”.

So, here’s the deal. If you, or someone you know is currently serving overseas in the military and could use the Gig of space to store pictures, emails, etc. from their family, drop me a line and tell me about them at “gmailinvite” at this particular domain and we’ll try and get them set up. If I found out you lied just to get an invite from me, well, there won’t be much I can do to you, but everyone here will know about it. 🙂

Mark, over at spudlets put together a short list of snappy comebacks , defined as: Often, when a poor client in distress calls, they will typically start with, “I know you’re real busy, but …” As a service for helpdesk geeks like me, I have listed the snappy comebacks you wish you could give but…

  • Ten months

It’s hard to believe, I know, but today marks the 10 month mark of working at the law firm instead of being the one man IT Department that I was before. It seems about as good a time as any to do a little reflecting on the plusses and minuses to working as part of…

  • One less laptop

There’s one less laptop in our pool this week, at least for now. It seems this particular laptop was a victim of a miracle. It was in a padded laptop case, just stuck in a car, and somehow the front of it (all the way across the base) got cracked and the touchpad doesn’t work. It’s truly…

  • Busy, busy..

I’ll be over here most of today, leafing through the latest Microsoft updates, 7 total, 2 critical. Then I’m going to go over here and check out a spellchecker Firefox extension, thanks to a recommendation from Geek News Central. In between, I’ll be helping set up a PowerPoint presentation for a meeting, dealing with some…
