Seemingly random AV thought

Oh, want to know what I learned today? When you remotely install Symantec’s Corporate edition AV product, make sure the user either has Outlook closed when you do it, or restarts Outlook immediately after you do it. The Outlook add-in does some things that make certain features of Outlook go pretty bonkers. Nothing a quick restart of Outlook won’t solve, but why put users through that panic? Especially when it’s your boss’s machine that displays the problem. Oops! *L*

I missed this over the weekend, but Dwight Silverman does a good job of breaking down the $100 PC available during the Thanksgiving Shopping spree. Surprise, surprise, the $100 for a PC really isn’t quite the deal it appears to be. It would be nice if retailers could go the route Dwight suggests, and just…

  • Tuesdays with #ILTA11

There are a couple of points from today that I want to explore in full post detail on their own, when I find time. (Because there’s always so much “free” time during this conference!) So today’s wrap up will mention them, but not get too detailed. First up was Tom Koulopoulus, who has been a…

First up, this weekend was the Tour de Grandview, a series of cycling races that take part over the weekend. Since the race course is only a few blockes from our house,…

  • Job search spam

Andy’s post today reminded me of a similar experience I had. I submitted a resume in response to an ad on a nationwide job board. Actually a reputable one at that, but obviously they don’t control everyone who posts jobs there. Within minutes of sending the resume in response I got an email, letting me…

  • Thanks for, um, nothing!

I spent almost 6 hours at work today. Ugh. I managed the get all the last Norton installs done and that’s off my plate. I managed to get all the new PC’s documented and entered into the helpdesk/specs database, and I tried a number of things to get those USB Dual PS/2 adapters but it’s…

  • Webcasting deal

Apparently, the webcasting deal passed the House Judiciary Committee, that’s a big step to final passage. Looks like the webcasters had to swallow some higher rates than they wanted in order to avoid the CARP fees kicking in, but at least this is back to being based on a percent of revenue, like broadcast radio…
