Photo Contest

Our local newspaper is running a digital photo contest every week this month. This week’s finalists include a picture by my wife! You too can go over to the The Columbus Dispatch and vote for your favorite. Obviously, my vote is a litle biased. 🙂

She becomes a finalist for the grand prize, and if she wins this week’s reader’s choice, she’ll win a free framed print.

  • Worth Reading – Employment data shows the early signs of AI job disruption are already here

While there may be growth opportunities in blue-collar industries, you don’t suddenly become a plumber or electrician. It’s a long learning process that doesn’t scale well for that many unemployed people. This is reskilling at a massive, rapid scale, but we have to admit that whatever reskilling we’ve done in the past hasn’t been that good.

Do we expect what we’ve done before to ever match current and future needs? I don’t think it will, and that’s a problem that should be addressed. We need different, serious ideas, but I don’t see many of them out there.

  • Google viewer

Just saw this for the first time, the Google viewer, which shows you the pages in your result and scrolls through all of your search results so you don’t have to actually do anything but stop it when it gets to the page you want. I’m not sure what I think of it yet, but…

Some interesting stuff, but no closer to a final conclusion of how it got there. The installer ran an XML file to get it’s updates. The XML file instructed it to download 4 files from download.statblaster.com. Those files were MemoryWatcher-b.exe, all_files9.exe, tracker.exe and FixIt.exe. Those in turn come bundled with their own “extras” and in…

  • Seemingly random AV thought

Oh, want to know what I learned today? When you remotely install Symantec’s Corporate edition AV product, make sure the user either has Outlook closed when you do it, or restarts Outlook immediately after you do it. The Outlook add-in does some things that make certain features of Outlook go pretty bonkers. Nothing a quick…

  • Speaking of Halloween

Angela took a break from vacation photos on Flickr to post a few pictures of our Halloween costumes, Elvis and Priscilla. I have to admit, stopping for fast food on the way home after the party in full Elvis outfit was fun. I may just have to take that mask and outfit for our next…

  • History lesson

Something struck me yesterday as we were strolling through the Columbus Museum of Art. We had gone specifically to see the American Impressionsists exhibit, but as we wandered around the rest of the musuem I was struck by one wall that had a “Photos of the City” display. These Photo League works ranged back to…
