New system

I did pick up a new system over the weekend, an AMD K7 1.4Ghz, 256MB PC133 RAM, 30GB Maxtor HDD, 10/100 NIC, 32MB shared Video RAM (really not that big a deal for what this machine is used for) for $299. The big selling point for this particular vendor was the 5 year warranty and upgrade special they were running for the show, and the toll-free tech support.

Unfortunately, after a successful Windows Server install, my Red Hat 7.1 server install screwed up the MBR, and corrupted some Windows boot files, so tonight I’ll be back to square one on the machine. Oh well, more practice setting up a Windows server, right? *L* Maybe I’ll leave the Linux install out for now, at least until I look at what might have happened in more detail.

But then again, the downside to the three day weekend is that it takes a day just to get back in the groove in the office! I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing or what I’m supposed to be doing! 🙂 Follow these topics: Uncategorized

There’s an inherent flaw in using Google’s “pages like this” function. Some blogs can appear to be alike one day because they both discuss a certain topic, but may generally have very little to do with one another. This is especially true when you get a group of people talking about going to Gnomedex, because…

Yeah the new Dell is working out pretty well. I’d forgotten how much work is involved in getting a new PC configured properly. I’d also forgotten how much junk gets pre-installed when you buy an OEM PC. I think I’ve uninstalled most of the trial versions of stuff I have no use for, like AOL,…

It looks like I’m going to be meeting with someone who runs a website for a small not for profit lobbying group next week so that she can pick my brain about blogging. I’ve already given her a bunch of links and a few articles about blogging, but I figured I’d throw it open to…

SafeWeb users are vulnerable. Oh the irony. Should we start calling them (not so)SafeWeb? *L* The Register is baffled by ICQ “hack”. Was it hacked or wasn’t it? • I’m here

I know, I haven’t posted anything today, and haven’t really been online much. I’m trying to get some database work done, but I’ve had too many interruptions between quick user questions and vendor phone calls. I think I’ve started over on this three times now, and it’s not necessarily anything difficult, it’s just hard to…
