Am I missing something?

I was reviewing some exam questions for the A+ exam over my lunch today, using the practice tests included with Mike Meyers’ A+ Certification Passport. It’s a decent book and the practice tests seem decent, but one of the questions had to do with someone who’s new email client could get incoming email but couldn’t send any email. Two of the possible answers were incorrect SMTP settings and incorrect POP3 settings. It gave the correct answer as incorrect POP3 settings. It even gave an explanation of the answer as “The POP3 settings are used for sending mail. Libby did not set her POP3 server settings correctly.”

I’ve setup an awful lot of email clients in my time and every one of them lists POP3 as incoming and SMTP as outgoing. 🙂 Maybe I’m just losing my freakin’ mind!

Yeah so yesterday at ITEC was basically a waste. To say I was underwhelmed by the show would be understating the fact. We’ll see how today goes, but I’m not going to kill myself to get back for any of day 2 today. (Hey, it still beats sitting in my office..*L*) I’ve got a bunch…

  • They don’t expect me to work like this do they?

We’re having some plumbing work done this morning. They’ve turned off all the water to the building, at least for the early part of the morning. That means no coffee. How can I be expected to work with no coffee? 🙂 Update: 9:45AM Water’s back on and there is the sweet heat of coffee in…

  • Thanks!

Just wanted to thank Kevin, Jevon, Lloyd and Andy for their thoughts concerning mail servers and what not. Lots of different options that are going to have to be explained to the powers that be. Of course that’s assuming I ever get a handle on all of the different options! Of course the more confusing…

File this under the headline of “old hoaxes never die”. I’ve been dealing with the jdbgmgr.exe hoax this morning. Apparently, someone with another organization fell for this one and passed it on. You should see the “to” line of the email. There are more addresses there than I care to even guess at. Let me…

Couple of interesting things I saw over at Chris’ Blog this morning that I think need to be shared. First, the good folks at Lockergnome have started up FileofTheDay.com. That might be something to keep handy when you’re in the mood for some good freeware or shareware. Secondly, the Barenaked Ladies have a blog. If…

Would you pay $500 to spend the day listening to people talk about blogging? Not that I was one of the “invited”, (I probably don’t live close enough to Boston) but please! I’m already sick of reading all the BS hype about blogging as it is! In fact, one day last week I was so…
