Geek hazard

So here’s a quick hazard of having too many geek toys. In process of making sitewide changes this weekend, I managed to screw up the HTML in two of the static pages. Turns out that while I used the laptop to check the validation of all of those pages, and corrected as necessary, I managed to not have the latest versions of two pages of the site on the desktop PC that I was using this weekend. So, two of the pages did not have the corrections made for validation and, therefore, no longer validated, but were the pages that I made other, major changes to, as far as changing the navigation bar. I had to waste some extra time going back and making the same corrections to those pages all because I use too many different computers to work on the site. 😉

I still want more toys though…

Yesterday was a big anniversary. I’m sure you’ve heard all about it. It was also a personal anniversary, and while it wasn’t exactly on par with the Wright Brothers in terms of changing the world, it was an important event for me. • RSS feeds

I’ve been watching a discussion take place online the last few days, and now I feel the need to put my 2 cents in. It started with Marc Canter saying that almost nobody reads blogs anymore because of RSS feeds. Then Evan disagreed, and today I noticed Tim Lutero getting into the act by saying…

“I rule!” First off, I did figure out what was going on with my template here, turns out it was my fault, blogger didn’t like those ampersand characters in the javascript for the blogrolling.com stuff, so I’m going to simply keep a copy of my template code as a text file on the server and…

  • Weekend traffic observations

Some random thoughts from looking at traffic patterns for this site: Most of you read while you’re working. Not surprisingly, since I mostly blog about work, while I’m working. 🙂 Traffic peaks mid-week generally and drops slightly on Friday before dropping significantly over the weekend. The drop in traffic on weekends is less in the…

  • More with the nastiness

As if to prove that it’s not just women being publicly slammed that gets my dander up, I agree with Roger’s comment here. So you dropped Scoble’s feed from your subscriptions. I do that all the time. Heck I drop people from the blogroll, or just quit reading blogs all the time because I’m not…
